In June 2019, I was promoted from from register to barista -- for this, I was required to take a "Coffee Quality" course through Brandywine Coffee Roasters and participate in 4 barista training sessions. Then, in August, I was promoted to Shift Supervisor. I was thus in charge of opening the cafe 4 times per week, preparing daily coffee specials, delegating tasks to other employees, and handling customer complaints. As a student caller/fundraiser, I called alumni, parents of undergraduates, friends of the University, and past donors to raise funds for all Johns Hopkins institutions. In addition, I received two weeks of extensive training in phone etiquette and persuasion skills, so that I could built positive rapor with donors before discussing money. The conversations followed a precise structure -- balancing persuasive statistics and asks with mannerly understanding. This position challenged my professionalism and eloquence, requiring me to think on my feet when addressing donors' concerns and adjusting my strategy for each individual.
