I am a junior postdoctoral research fellow of the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO). In my project (2019-2022), entitled, “Toward an Integrated Account of Freedom. Lessons from Arendt, Foucault and Beauvoir,” I try to develop a relational notion of freedom that underscores the potential to resist neoliberal normalization. I obtained my PhD (magna cum laude) with a dissertation, entitled 'The Limits of Tragedy. Arendt's Philosophy of Remembrance,' in which I reconstruct Arendt's notion of a hermeneutics of the self. My examination committee included Raf Geenens, Peg Birmingham (DePaul University), Bart Raymaekers and Julia Jansen. Throughout my PhD, I have presented my work on various conferences, such as "The Politics of Performance and Play. Feminist Matters" (Leiden, July 7-8 2016), "LSE Political Theory Graduate Conference" (London, 17-18 March), "Subjectivity and the Political" (Madrid, 9-10 March 2016) and "SciencesPo Political Theory Graduate Conference" (Paris, 11-12 June 2015). I have been a teaching assistant, for instance for 'Praktijkseminarie cultuurfilosofie' [applied seminar cultural philosophy], where bachelor students attend an art performance, exposition or read a novel, and reflect on its philosophical features. I also enjoy writing for a non-academic public (e.g. De Fusie), and I participated in events like the Amsterdam Museumnacht (together with artists Erfan Abdi at Waag Society) and the 'philosophical talkshow' of SSBA-Salon/Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam. I also co-organized the annual 'Feest van de Filosofie' in STUK, Leuven, and moderated discussions with speakers as diverse as Philippe Van Parijs, Nadia Fadil and Naema Tahir. My research was funded by a PhD-fellowship by Research Foundation (FWO) - Flanders (2013-2017). I developed, organized and coordinated lectures and courses for a general audience that are related to philosophy. Courses that I developed and organized include 'Vrouwelijke filosofen' (Female philosophers), a masterclass of eight sessions in which renown Dutch scholars introduce 20th and 21st century female philosophers; 'Wegwijs in Habermas' (Exploring Habermas), and introductory course in Habermas' recent work, and in coordination with Praemium Erasmianum, ISVW, publisher Boom and the Dutch Humanist Association; 'Filosofie voor psychologen en psychiaters' (Philosophy for psychologists and psychiatrists), a course in philosophy tailored to professionals in mental health care. I also participated in the final realization of the NRC Academie lecture course 'Wetenschap ter discussie' (Sciences contested), and in the start-up phase of Bureau Filosofie, that provides in-company training in philosophy, and The Philosophers Club, an on-line platform for philosophical activities in the low lands for a general audience.
