Due to COVID-19 restrictions placed on the Alaska commercial fishing industry, my administrative duties shrunk. To stay busy, I requested more work around the office and ventured into the plant to process fish as well. My tasks ranged from answering phone calls, completing purchase order requests, paperwork, uploading fish ticket information to a database, etc. I developed a see-a-job do-a-job mentality when in the plant, utilizing slow periods in my station to assist elsewhere. Timekeeper

Jun 2019 - Aug 2019
I spent the season working over 100 hour weeks as a timekeeper for a 24/7 fish professing facility. I used Kronos to track time for 549 employees and worked closely with production and payroll to problem solve any discrepancies. I enjoyed working in a fast-paced, diverse environment as the majority of employees came from Serbia, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Poland, Czech Republic, and Puerto Rico. I returned from the Peace Corps but wanted to continue volunteering overseas while I applied for graduate school. I arranged short volunteer agreements in Iceland and Norway. In Iceland I worked in reception at a family run guesthouse in the north and in Norway I took care of 21 Shetland ponies in the western fjords while their owners traveled.
