Associate Professor, English--rhetoric and composition; writing center director; WAC coordinator

Aug 2009 - Present
Beyond my teaching and departmental duties (see above), I often chair the university's faculty development committee, which allows me to provide WSU faculty the resources needed for organizational change, change in instructional delivery, and information on university projects. I enjoy this work greatly, particularly because it focuses on improving student learning across the university, providing information on minority, at-risk, marginalized, or unique student populations, puts me in contact with incredibly intelligent people from every field in the university, and helps me and others learn of the multitude of public and academic projects undertaken by my university. Fun stuff! In a similar vein, I have served as writing-across-the curriculum coordinator and serve as director of the writing center. These positions also allow me to share my expertise on how adults learn college-level literacy and how professors of all disciplines can best support this literacy process. All these positions allow me contact and dialogue with unique, talented people from my institution as well as, occasionally, national and internationally-renowned educational researchers at the top of their game that I invite to campus to work with WSU faculty. The learning never seems to stop... Show less

I was the second to several great directors of the first-year writing program, which supported and assessed over 4000 freshmen and 80 instructors annually. The position was a fantastic introduction to running a writing program or educational programming, which I still do joyfully at Winona State University.
