I have recently completed an internship with AIYF as part of the Festival Administration Team. The main purpose of my role was to work with core staff to create a design, promotion and administration plan for the Summer Courses and support its implementation during the festival in July 2015. Part of my role was also as Festival Receptionist throughout the 3 weeks running up to and during the festival. As the first point of contact for many of the staff, participants and public I was able to vastly improve on my communication and organisational skills as well as keep up-to-date with all aspects of the festival. Key tasks & activities included: ▪ accurately recording and processing application forms, contact information, meal requirements and accommodation requirements for participants and staff. ▪ communicating with participants as well as parents/guardians and liaising with the course providers. ▪ preparing briefing notes for participant groups, updating Summer Course information sheets & briefing the chaperones on the training day. In November 2014 I was lucky enough to be one of 10 students chosen to attend a week long course in Hannover, Germany based on academic merit. This was an intensive and challenging programme which allowed me to interact and form relationships with other students from many different countries such as Germany, The Netherlands, China and Finland. The aim of the course was to enable students to understand the dimensions of culture in both national and corporate settings, as well as apply knowledge about culture with mixed international teams under pressure. This course allowed me to put my communication skills to the test working in a group of mixed nationalities and also to push myself to work efficiently and effectively under high pressure time constraints. It was an extremely rewarding experience which enabled me to value, respect and adapt to any cultural differences or conflicts the group faced. Volunteered to work at the festival in March 2013 and 2014. Duties included: working as front of house and box office for jazz nights at different venues across the city, welcoming guests and collecting and allocating tickets. I also acted as a runner at the Jazz on the Green event taking place in a number of different venues on the day. Most recently I was given more responsibility and allocated a venue to look after along with another volunteer.
