Environment reporter

Nov 2006 - Apr 2011
Reporting, writing, voicing and producing news spots and features. From 1996 to 2006, I worked both as a freelancer and as temporary staff – full and part-time -- in KPLU's news bureau in Seattle, as well as in my home studio in the San Juan Islands. From November 2006 to April 2011, I worked full-time on the environment beat. During this time, I also became the primary back-up host for KPLU’s Weekend Edition. During my years with KPLU, I worked as a solo correspondent and as a member of project teams. I twice filled in for short stints at the public radio statehouse bureau in Olympia, Washington. I’ve also filed reports for NPR, The World, Living on Earth, Pacifica, Free Speech Radio News and Restoration Radio. Show less

I single-handedly produced a subscription-based web publication with a small but devoted readership that looked to The Island Times for the in-depth, high-quality news coverage of the environment, politics and civic issues in the San Juan Islands of Washington State that they couldn't get anywhere else.
