From 1996 to 2006, I worked both as a freelancer and as temporary staff – full and part-time -- in KPLU's news bureau in Seattle, as well as in my home studio in the San Juan Islands. From November 2006 to April 2011, I worked full-time on the environment beat. During this time, I also became the primary back-up host for KPLU’s Weekend Edition. During my years with KPLU, I worked as a solo correspondent and as a member of project teams. I twice filled in for short stints at the public radio statehouse bureau in Olympia, Washington. I produced news stories and interviews. I oversaw, cultivated and edited a roster of commentators. I supervised a crew of volunteer and student hosts, reporters and production assistants, and hosted the show 2-3 times a week.
