Barnardo’s Do PolitiX project, funded by the Electoral Commission, has worked with over 10,000 young people across the North East region over the past three years. The project aimed to increase young people’s awareness of politics and identify issues important to them and to consequently become involved in influencing decision makers. Over 70% of socially excluded young people who took part in Do PolitiX political awareness raising sessions have now registered to vote. The success of Barnardo’s Do Politix has led to a new project due to start in 2010. ‘Making Change Happen’ will be delivered by young people to their peers to campaign on issues that matter to them.
