Employed as the Building Services Commercial Manager on the Sunshine Coast University Hospital. The hospital is a major PPP project and will revolutionise healthcare on the Sunshine Coast. This major health complex is currently scheduled for completion late 2016 and is being constructed on a 20 hectare site. The works under Liam’s responsibility included: a) 738 bed multi functional main hospital building; b) mental health unit; c) mortuary building; d) clinical laboratories; e) skills, academic and research centre (SARC); f) central energy and facilities management centre; and g) 2 multi-storey car parks. Liam was employed in the position of regional commercial manager for Balfour Beatty Engineering Services Midlands region having overall responsibility for the buying and commercial departments reporting directly to the company Regional Director, the Commercial Director and the Managing Director. Balfour Beatty promoted Liam to this role following his Initial appointment as the Commercial Manager at the Birmingham New Hospitals PFI Project. The Birmingham New Hospital Project comprised 1,285 bed hospital; high dependency unit, 32 operating theatres, treatment rooms; Laboratories; A&E department; Imaging Department; General Wards; Restaurants; Retail Units; Management Suites; Offices; Specialist Departments; Central Control Centre; Energy Centre on a 50 acre site of the old Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Edgbaston, UK and also included 4 new psychiatric facility with a total of 159 beds delivered on external sites across Birmingham, UK. The project was delivered across an existing hospital sites that remained fully functional during construction of the new development. Liam was involved at the bid stage of this major project and input into the successful negotiations leading to the ‘Contract Award’. Following ‘Contract Award’ Liam remained involved and committed to the delivery of this major project and he was involved in establishing the commercial strategy and the implementation of the commercial strategy. Notably, Liam’s role in the PFI continued to the expiry of the defects period and included, but was not limited to; establishing the supply chain; procurement of major plant /equipment and specialist Sub-Contractors; supply chain management; establishing value engineering opportunities; change control; cost control; implementation of innovative /modern construction techniques; project financial forecasts; setting operational /production effectiveness strategies and monitoring their outcome. In this role Liam reported directly to the Joint Venture Board. Show less
