My main responsibilities were responding to breakdowns, carrying out routine checks and maintenance on site. I was also on call providing 24/7 cover for breakdowns or other issues outside of my working hours. As there were cranes on site, I received training to operate a MEWP mobile boom to reach them and carry out maintenance. My main responsibility at Jardin was responding to breakdowns, carrying out PPMs of equipment on site and rectifying problems brought up by the Health and Safety officer. The equipment was mostly mechanical so I was able to develop my skills in that area. In my role at Xaar, I was responsible for the planned and reactive maintenance of facilities and equipment (including HVAC, LEV, electrical and other systems). This included being on the call out rota. In addition, I was responsible for contractor management, liaising with other departments and supplying services to tools and equipment. I also gained a fork lift licence and first aid training while working at Xaar. I started at ThyssenKrupp as part of an engineering apprenticeship with college. At the factory, I worked in 3 different areas in order to gain a broader experience. Some of the work I did included electrical installation, fabrication, controlling and performing maintenance on process robots, line maintenance and fault finding. As part of this, I studied the National Certificate in Engineering at Huntingdonshire Regional College for one day a week. I was made redundant when the site closed in 2010. Show less
