I have known Lewis for 4 years and have gotten to know him well in both personal and professional environments. We both undertook Human Biology BSc with a placement year. He has a strong set of skills in the academic setting, especially that of lab procedures and generation of information. Lewis has undertaken a lot of stress in his personal life and academic life and I really commend his preservation and determination to overcome these situations. I have really admired these aspects over the course of our friendship and anyone who gets to know him on a personal level will find a level headed individual who can overcome most situations thrown at him. He can assess information correctly and when he does make mistakes, these are reflected on and the aspect is improved upon. I wholeheartedly recommend anyone considering him for a job or an opportunity in any academic programs.

In my most recent role I worked as a laboratory technician within the Laboratory and Analytical Operations (LAO) team at Sheffield Hallam University. This was a full-time industry placement that I applied for as part of my degree between the second and third years to gain a greater understanding of a working lab environment and to apply my knowledge to the real world. During my time working at Sheffield Hallam University I took part in three very different but equally important and enlightening voluntary courses, these were: • 3D Cell Culture Uses and Techniques - This course was an introduction to 3D cell culture and it's advantages over 2D cell culture in research as well as a few short presentations from a few researchers about their current research. • Green Laboratories - This course taught about the environmental impact of scientific research and what can be done to make working Laboratories more eco-friendly such as ideas for replacing single use plastics. • Mental Health Awareness - This course taught what signs to look for in the work place for people who may be struggling and how to approach the subject with colleagues and make a safer work environment for people who may struggle with mental health difficulties. As part of this role, my duties included but were not limited to: acting as both an lead and an assist in preparing and running lab classes, mammalian cell culture, storage, preparation and waste of hazardous chemicals, inventory management, autoclaving to sterilise and waste, dealing with unknown or hazardous chemical or biological spillages, and ensuring all students and staff follow the correct health and safety guidelines.

This position required excellent communication skills, to both work well within a team and also to ensure the best possible customer experience. As part of this role, my duties included but were not limited to: ensuring that the store was fully stocked, handling sales, waste management, inventory management, and most importantly ensuring customer satisfaction. This position was a voluntary position that I took up while I was taking my A-levels as a way to give back to the school and advance my career development as well as my love for teaching others and using that as a way of furthering my understanding of topics. As part of this role, my duties included but were not limited to: acting as a reader and scribe for students who were unable to read and write for themselves, leading group activities, ensuring all students followed all health and safety practices during practical sessions, answering any questions students had and generally helping out around the classroom.
