Bio
Susan Panny
Dr. Hsu worked with my unit at the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to provide seamless care for children identified through the Maryland Newborn Screening Program as having sickle cell disease. He attempted to cut through the administrative barriers at Children's in DC that kept them from working with the Maryland program that had identified these Maryland children as having sickle cell disease when Children's in DC was the most accessible place for them to receive specialty care and treatment. The barriers that DC Children's erected between Maryland and DC after many years of working together were artificial and destructive to good patient care and regional cooperation. His efforts were much appreciated by families, patients and the Maryland Sickle Cell Disease Program. It is the well being and care of the children that counts, not artificial bureaucratic and political divisions.
