They created a stunning, meaningful artwork and a description of cultural elements that will help our staff increase their cultural awareness.

Providing coaching through an Advantage Thinking Framework for young people in the Extended Care Program. As a YDC, I provide support, guidance and opportunities for young people in foster care to explore and achieve their goals. EXCP is a program driven to help empower young people and develop upon independent living skills and decision making through all aspects of their life until they are 21. I was the sole worker supporting 16 young people across Western NSW and had to take upon my own initiative and direction with my manager being based in Sydney to build the role and connections to young people, their carers, their caseworkers, and new communities. This role saw me shine in a different light, and I am so grateful for the impacts I made on the lives of young people, of which I still hear from others, that the young people still talk about me even after finishing in the role in February 2021 to move to Newcastle. Some of the things I did within this role was to support young people to realise that they had the potential to achieve their goals, support them to explore further education options, employment, move into independent living, try new things outside their comfort zone, to connect to other young people in care, have a voice for themselves and know that they were in charge of their journey. LeaderLife is a small not-for-profit organisation based in Dubbo NSW. The children I worked with at Apollo House – a local community centre in Dubbo (2015-2016). I volunteered for 6 months teaching hip hop to the children (primarily Aboriginal children from and children from disadvantaged backgrounds) two afternoons a week, focusing on them embracing their style, building confidence, and breaking away from that ‘shame’ factor. I also would support with after school activities. I also used further time to complete my Diploma of Community Services Work Placement hours before becoming employed as a dance teacher. This was a space of gratitude to see the children grow in themselves, and hear how they looked up to me. This helped me grow a deeper understanding of the needs and supports within community when representing as Chairperson for the Dubbo City Youth Council. About Leader Life: There programs support children aged between 5 and 12 years old (Skillbuilders), young males aged between 13 and 18 years of age (CATALYST), young males aged between 15 and 25 years of age having a tough time getting a job (Soil2Soul), and adults who drop into Apollo House seeking tailored life navigation support (Resilience). LeaderLife’s programs work respectfully with the community, providing a platform of empowerment. They deliver effective early intervention and prevention strategies through successful, innovative and evidence based diversionary and therapeutic programs. They gently create opportunities for behaviour change that helps transform lives within Dubbo. Show less
