Development Director

Jan 2010 - Present
I was hired to integrate and advance philanthropy at GSIL by building productive internal and partner relationships that would lead to transformative fundraising solutions through winning collaborations. Much of my day-to-day work involves creating and managing the annual development plan. I also leverage current contributors and engage new participants with a particular emphasis on a donor-centered philosophy (donor centricity) that has led to quadrupling total annual support. I lead the Board of Directors and Executive Leadership in fundraising efforts and judiciously administer the annual departmental budget, coming in under budget each year. Also I serve as the internal voice for needs of donors, private corporate supporters, and grantors. Additionally I conceptualize novel and refine old processes for various development functions, i.e. donation tracking, success story collection, and donor communication. I have achieved the following milestones: • Conceived and launched an innovative fundraising event (wheelchair basketball tournament) that generated $63K in new funds and hundreds of annual donor prospects. • Enlist the staff in philanthropic understanding and engagement. Participation in the Employee Campaign has grown from 35% to 83% and dollars raised has doubled. • Spearhead multiple high impact program enhancements and development through strategic utilization of existing local resources, thereby extending the organization’s reach and effectiveness. • Envisioned and creatively assembled a cost-saving plan to finance major facility improvements. • Have served or volunteered on 12 committees unrelated to fundraising. • Initiated cost saving measures that brought almost all material design and printing in house. Development Director
-
2001 - 2009
I was brought on to establish a comprehensive development program, to lead internal and external stakeholders in a team environment, and to implement all fundraising activities. I was responsible for the design and execution of all donor-centered fundraising training for the Board and Executive staff. In addition I maintained a strict donor focus and increased the number of major donors 3-fold, which tripled annual giving. Further I devised a strategy that linked the national ACLU donors with the local NHCLU initiatives, leading to 300%+ growth. I introduced innovative outreach efforts, such as house parties, donor surveys, e-mail action alerts, quarterly newsletters, and major donor roundtables. Another achievement of mine was to establish a much needed creative workaround to an existing inefficient data collection process. Show less

-
Executive Director
-
1998 - 2001
Here I orchestrated all office activities in a solo environment. This involved creating and managing the agency budget, preparing all financial statements from General Ledger through Trial Balance, and organizing all aspects of 3 annual dinners and award presentations. Among my other responsibilities I responded to unmet needs in the family planning community by producing a new 3–5 year program and boosting the number of involved stakeholders. I also actively participated in the Reproductive Rights Coalition that included lobbying in the NH Legislature. I engineered a strong collaboration with the State Office of Family Planning and increased the agency's funds by 80%. Show less

Campaign Director

1994 - 1998
My primary objectives were to manage the volunteer campaign structure of 700+ individuals annually to ensure receipts of $2M+ and to devise a winning strategy to help campaign workers better understand the goals and strategies of the organization, which resulted in scaling the campaign upwards by 15%. I also trained, supervised, and evaluated 5–7 full time campaign volunteers annually and worked closely with the high profile Volunteer Campaign Chairs.
