The Jefferson School African American Heritage Center’s Education and Public Programs department invites the public in myriad ways to experience the historic and contemporary culture of people of the African Diaspora. The assistant curator of education and public programs works with the executive director and chief curator of education and public programs to produce the JSAAHC’s annual schedule of interdisciplinary programs that educate the public about the prolific cultural production of peoples from the African Diaspora. The position includes but is not limited to assisting in the management of established programs including: Green Cook-Off, Juneteenth, Kwanza, Liberation and Freedom Day, as well as the Center’s annual lecture series and Charlottesville Players Guild program. The position reports directly to the Executive Director and serves as part of the Center’s program planning team. Specific Duties: Position is part-time. A successful member of the Education and Public Programs team understands that it is required at times to work nights and weekends. Duties include: • Work with executive director to develop annual event calendar• Engage with volunteers to ensure positive programmatic outcomes• Engage with presenters to ensure program development and execution• Work with marketing/advancement team to ensure adequate promotion to constituents• Maintain (Collect and report) audience statistics• Work with program planning team to develop new programs that advance the Heritage Center mission• Aid in grant writing Show less
