My daily responsibilities include the standard obtaining of specimens, proper patient identifying, as well as patient comfort and confidentiality. Within my daily routine, I also QC (Quality Control) all requisitions, by verifying through our Meditech System that all orders were entered correctly, tests were not missed, and all comments and special instructions are entered appropriate. With the large volume of off-site patient activity, comes the task of the registration process using the Epic Computer System, as well as entering all specimen orders into the Meditech Computer System, prior to obtaining the specimen from the patient. This Process has given me the knowledge and further understanding of the importance of the necessary steps involved in insuring our patient’s safety, privacy and attention to detail. Due to the nature of the vast increase of responsibilities in my position, I am also the liaison between my direct supervisor, and coordinators to report any and all findings that need be addressed while maintaining our off-sites. I am also responsible for placing our supply orders, so all locations are well stocked and prepared for all staff that may be called to cover any of our locations. This is a process newly implemented to create an even greater comfort level in our patients, by the awareness of our company taking further measures to secure the safety of both them and their blood specimens. I am also responsible the managing and organization of the Phlebotomy supply room. My responsibilities include, keeping my immediate supervisor informed of any supplies needed for her placing of the next order, to keep an accurate supply of all essentials available to staff members , as we have 3 separate shifts to keep all necessary supplies available and in their appropriate place so they are attainable at all times for the shifts to run flawlessly. I have also recently began assisting at our Oncology/Hematology site and work directly with Oncology patients. I am responsible for obtaining all the specimens directly for 6 individual Oncologists'/Hematologists. This position recently added the responsibility for entering the patients orders, entering mini-registrations, running the centrifuge, batching specimens to prepare them for transport pick-up and assist the Medical Technicians. All these procedures must coincide with patients' appointments that are due to receive chemotherapy treatments, re-hydration, and iron injections, etc. This can also include tending to patients in their office appointments, which are located on a separate floor, in their physicians office.
