My role includes teaching stage 1 and 2 undergraduate psychology students research and statistical workshops, alongside providing other support to our undergraduate students.Alongside my role I am working towards a PhD. My research looks at developing remotely delivered behaviour change interventions, primarily through the use of social robots. I focus on the delivery of a new imagery-based motivational intervention called Functional Imagery Training. I investigate how social robots can deliver this therapy to help promote successful behaviour change, but also with a focus on the interaction clients have with the robot during this process. I explore the behaviour change process, the relationship between robot and client, comparing human and robot delivery, induced change talk, robot interface and more, with the aim of developing a new remote mode of delivery for talk based therapies. The purpose of my research is to create a preventative intervention to help the population who have a need/desire to change their behaviour, but cannot receive clinical help as they do not reach the clinical threshold. As well as offering a source of support for those who may not feel able to approach a human with their current issues.

Placement year for degree programme. Role included responsibility over the wellbeing of the animals and applying psychology to a new field. I developed training programmes for the animals (variety of elasmobranch species) to help the biologists at the aquarium look after the wellbeing of the animals. This included target training sharks to feed on the surface and receive food from tongs, as well as conditioning rays to come to feeding stations within the largest tank in the UK.
