I was mainly working on the field, Conducting lecturing sessions called Join In Circuits (JIC Runs). This system was mainly started in German after a study that it was an effective way to build awareness to HIV and AIDS and the ways to prevent and manage your health and leave longer even when you have the disease or virus. We would have Stations with post cards circled around where we would put people in groups of 15 people per station with different topics per station. JIC runs had mainly 1. Contraceptive station, 2. Ways of prevention against HIV & AIDS, 3. How do you use a condom effectively and demonstrate using demonstrative materials, 4. Sexually transmitted diseases awareness, 5. Establishment of Support groups & build awareness to the nearest centers, 6. Awareness to the nearest health facilities & the right to medical care, 7. Advantages of early testing and treatment, 8. No to stigma campaign, 9. Patience charter, 10. Encourage synergy with the local authorities like the Town Councils across Harare. We could travel to the remote places in Zimbabwe to ensure that this awareness could reach everyone and I enjoyed each and every part of this Job. We could interact with different people and that is where I built my confidence speaking in public. We would distribute condoms, sanitary pads and held meetings with the people in different societies & Churches with different beliefs and views about HIV and AIDS and helped make them understand remove the negative myths inside the societies about the Disease and Virus. At times we would have healthy individuals living with HIV giving their own testimonies & experience living with HIV & AIDS and how they managed to also give raise HIV negative/free families. It was such an interesting part of my life and I would still do it given the chance to do so. Show less
