I have worked with Lennard in different moments and in different contexts. We were both backend developers for a while, then he was leading our Data Team and finally, after a few years, he joined as a Data Coach to help me pushing the company data literacy to the next level. In all these diverse occasions, Lennard signature was always there: an engineer and a leader who does what needs to be done, without much showing off and to the point. At upday he was always humbling calling himself "Data Engineer", but what he did for the Data Team at upday went way beyond the simple engineering. He is the one that started with a vision for our Data strategy, the one who got many of our teams on board "with data" and ultimately started teaching data to our company. It was a true loss the day he left. Happily enough, we had the chance to work again together a few years later. Lennard helped us defining the steps that could make our company more fluent with our BI tools and simplify the access to our data library to a bigger audience. As a final note, I never experienced a conflict with Lennard, all our discussions went on smoothly and we always worked harmoniously together. His seniority as a technical expert comes with a great ability to communicate with every type of person, nicely and in an understandable way, always making sure that at the end, both parties gained something from it.

Working with Lennard is like a charm. He is super easy to communicate with, knows hs stuff, always helpful and provides a solution for every problem that you come up with. This personality traits connected with his technical skills make him a perfect match for nearly every task. I would be more than pleased to work again with him! All the best for your future tasks.

As the first Data Engineer at Tourlane, I took over ownership of the Data Warehouse and data processing pipelines from a technical perspective, as well as all company-wide reporting and business analytics from a Business Intelligence perspective. I planned and executed migrating the Data Warehouse to Postgres and rolled out Metabase as our Business Intelligence tool, while improving the reliability of existing data pipelines and adding new ones as needed. As part of my business analytics focus, I took care of formalising business metrics and KPIs in a central place and work with their owners to ensure we rely on the right numbers and track them correctly. I became a member of the newly-founded Data team and helped building an Amazon Redshift-based cloud data warehouse, while learning Data Engineering and related concepts as we progressed. I defined data processing pipelines and data models, supported Business Intelligence and Data Science teams in running ad-hoc analytics and KPI reporting.I planned and oversaw our migration from a full-service third-party provider to the Snowplow event tracking solution, which involved planning the scale of the system, working with mobile app developers to add new tracking code and with business analysts to define data models and implementing them in Looker. Part of this migration project was to transition to the Snowflake cloud data warehouse from Amazon Redshift, reducing maintenance and costs. Show less

As a member of the backend engineering team, I helped rolling out the Ruby on Rails-backed API during product launch and contributed to transitioning from a monolithic to a microservices architecture. We extracted parts of the business logic into dedicated, smaller services and as the owner of the then-legacy Rails API I helped coordinate our efforts which ended with the planned decommission of the legacy API. I took an activate part in the on-call rotation and ensured maximum availability for all backend services. Show less

    • Lead Developer at BSocial: A Social Network for Regional Cooperation
      • Jul 2014 - Oct 2014

BSocial is a social network for regional cooperation at Braunschweig area. Its members are enabled to give help and also look for help from others in their neighbourhood. The name stands for “be social”, of course, and BS is our local number plate. Yes, there is another meaning for BS in English, I know: But we're not referring to Bachelor of Science here. The network uses gamification to drive user engagement. For my diploma thesis at Braunschweig University I was tasked to extend the existing concept with principles of gamification and building the web app with Ruby on Rails. Show less
