Vivial creates tools to help small and medium size businesses grow their online presence and connect with customers. Vivial Platform • Designed and implemented multiple API endpoints in many different Node REST microservices • Expanded internal service framework adding Express middleware’s to authorize requests between services • Configured and implemented data layer components: migrations, seeds, data access objects (modules) using Knex.js • Implemented message publishing and subscribing from and to many different services using AWS SNS topics, processing those events on the end side and sending jobs to AWS SQS queues • Used Snowflake to explore and take reports from warehouses and provide the product team with data to make decisions • Created tests suites to validate each service was working as expected • Configured Amazon CloudWatch Events to perform scheduled tasks • Integrated multiple third-party libraries like PhotoEditorSDK into different React apps One of my major contributions to the project was the improvement of the subscriptions and client’s config service, which allows us to derive which modules of the system should be enabled to each client according to the terms of the subscription and the products they were paying for. Environment: Node, JavaScript, React, Express, AWS, Serverless Framework, PostgreSQL, Swagger, GitHub Marketing Platform • Reverse engineering to get business logic rules from the legacy code • Migrate client and user images from Drupal server to AWS S3 buckets • Fix bugs and refactor critical modules so they could be integrated with the new Node microservices • Disable or enable features as they were added or removed from the new Vivial Platform. One of my major contributions to the project was the creation of REST API inside the Drupal project to enable the migration of data and integration with the microservices of the new Vivial Platform. Environment: PHP, Drupal, JavaScript, JQuery, MariaDB, SASS, GitHub Show less

Ushahidi is a non-profit organization with the mission of raising the voices of marginalized people and helping those who serve them to listen and respond better. I created a USSD package based on BotMan and Laravel, which can be integrated with the Ushahidi platform for data collection as a low-cost, feature-rich alternative to SMS. I was involved in the analysis, design, and implementation of the USSD service, collaborating with the Ushahidi team. The application is able to handle and store conversations with users through different USSD gateways, paginate text, geolocate users, and send user responses to the Ushahidi platform through an API. Environment: PHP, Laravel, Redis, PHPUnit, BotMan, Git. Show less

Back End Developer

Jul 2017 - Jul 2019
As a backend developer, I worked on designing, implementing, and refactoring features for a centralized REST API that served data for two web apps, two mobile apps, and many classifieds websites. I designed and implemented a microservice/library that could be used to decode the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) information using two different third-party information provider services. I created a domain-specific language to parse a set of query params into their respective SQL filtering clause. It was able to handle multiple comparison and equality types. I also was responsible for configuring pipelines and deploying code to production servers, setting configurations for the web server, cron jobs and queues. Environment PHP, Phalcon, MySQL, Redis, Nginx, SOAP, AWS RDS, AWS EC2, GitHub, Elasticsearch Show less
