With a proportionately small staff, the various departments work closely together. In my two years there, I had the opportunity to help organize collections and research materials, build public and educational programming, and track down artifacts for developing exhibits. I developed unique experiences for groups from third graders, to social workers, to international groups that required coordination with a foreign-language interpreter. I anticipated the needs and questions of walk-in visitors, and facilitated group discussions on challenging issues of social justice. Hull House allowed me to tackle big issues of today through their foundations in the past, and help young and old see their potential as critical thinkers. I had the opportunity to dive into exciting research, to uncover forgotten mysteries. Working with the public everyday proved to be a constant source of surprise and exciting learning opportunities.
