  Within the broader framework of Mad Studies, my interdisciplinary research project draws on the possibilities of alternate histories or counter-narratives of mental illness by individuals who identify as consumers, patients or survivors of mental healthcare services. The research examines the dynamic discourses of illness narratives enabled by emergent digital spaces like Instagram, Snapchat and Reddit and their role in accommodating multiple perspectives and simultaneous existences of hyphenated identities. This project explores how digital spaces provide authenticity to diverse illness experiences by accommodating and rendering visibility to elusive selves often sidelined in a recovery-oriented paradigm.
