Lena Bose has long worked as an editor of textbooks. She is meticulous, diligent and utterly reliable. She has a special interest in wildlife and nature conservation. Her skills as a photographer are quite phenomenal too, for she has a keen sense of observation and a knack for never missing the minutest detail. What I find difficult to understand, though, is how oblivious Lena Bose remains of her many talents. She is now a dear friend and not just a former colleague, and she laughs off admiration, telling me I'm a woman of poor taste.

In my association for almost ten years with Lena, I have seen how efficiently she has managed to spearhead projects, and respected the author editor relationship. As a commissioning editor, she has always had an eye for choosing people with the right resources to conduct various jobs like style sheet and cover development, illustrations etc. As a publishing manager she coordinated efficiently between me ( the author) and the editorial and together we came up with several successful textbook series on EVS and Social studies. Brainstorming new ideas was always very easy with her, and she would always take ideas and suggestions with an open minded and solution oriented attitude. I usually found Lena open to suggestions and ideas during our brainstorming sessions and ready to accept perspectives. Usually when editors and publishing managers do not understand and respect the author’s perspective, a product fails to succeed or match up to an author’s expectations. Fortunately I did not face this as Lena would work as a smooth conduit between me and the copy editors to do justice to all my manuscripts. As an author I always found Lena very approachable and even in times of crisis and stressful situations I always found her well composed. That is an attribute that has helped us work as a team, and overcome several challenges during the development stage of many projects together Her eye for style sheets and design have always complimented my manuscripts, which, from an author’s perspective were crucial element to strengthen the look and feel of a book in the primary school segment. The sort of experience that Lena carries with her, I am sure she will manage many more projects successfully, wherever she goes. I wish her good luck in all future endeavours!!!
