I've had the pleasure of working with Leland Humbertson at The Woodstock Independent for several years. In that time, I've always known him to work tirelessly for The Independent and its sister newspaper, The Harvard Main Line, which he helped start in 2009. When The Independent was looking to expand, Leland was asked to be The Main Line’s first editor, a role he has embraced whole-heartedly. He has established relationships with public officials, business owners and residents in Harvard, Ill., the monthly paper’s area of coverage, and has since taken on such varied roles as reporter, copyeditor, designer and photographer. He also oversees a staff of freelance reporters who write for the newspaper. All this he does in addition to continuing to contribute to The Independent, a weekly newspaper, and The Torch, a newsprint magazine published periodically throughout the year. In addition to being a dedicated, talented employee, Leland is also a friendly, personable colleague. I am sure he will be a valuable addition to any staff.

I wrote for and edited the association's two member publications, the online Anesthesia E-ssential (emailed to all 50,000 members weekly) and NewsBulletin (mailed to all members six times a year). For the E-ssential, I contributed shorter stories and then input the stories into the content management system. For NewsBulletin, I wrote feature-length stories that highlighted the accomplishments of CRNAs. I made sure both publications adhered to AP style. In addition to the two ongoing publications, some of the other major projects I worked on were writing/editing e-blasts to members in Real Magnet and also creating the roster and writing stories for the convention daily e-newsletter distributed during the annual meeting. I have also coordinated photography at the convention and worked with a video production company to produce a short video promoting membership. Show less
