I had the pleasure of reporting to Leila when she was Director of the Operational Excellence team at Taylor & Francis. As a business leader, Leila is results-driven and maintains focus on what's critical, ensuring that complex projects and discussions stay on track. In a matrix organisation with overlapping responsibilities, I always found Leila helpful in unblocking blockers and funding the right people to talk to, particularly through periods of change. Leila was great at "translating" high-level strategy into deliverable operations and putting it into context for people like myself who are newer to academic publishing. The creation of the OpEx team was a significant change to the way our department previously worked and Leila managed a large number of varied stakeholders, continually reiterating the purpose of the team and providing consistent direction to us as employees. Four years on, the team is simply part of the furniture and it's difficult to imagine going back to the previous way of working - much of that is due to Leila's tenacity in demonstrating the value of the team and uncovering the USPs which only we could deliver. Coming into the role, I quickly realised that the team was a great place to work as a direct result of the ethos and methodologies that Leila had put in place. As a manager, I found Leila to be open, trusting, and reliable. She was always clear with direction and feedback and took the time to understand more about my personal preferences and motivations. I always felt that I was being set up for success and was empowered to make decisions. Leila's empathetic and warm nature also spread to the team and the day-to-day culture is the best I've ever experienced. Colleagues were encouraged to communicate openly and support each other, creating a level of collaboration which is difficult to achieve organically. I have no doubt that Leila will bring the same level of success, structure, and focus to her future endeavours for the betterment of the wider publishing industry.

I had the pleasure of working alongside Leila for 10 years where I’ve seen her flourish into a true expert in process improvement. Her proven track record in setting up something new, whether new teams or new specialisms, is testament to her willingness to take on difficult challenges and overcome any obstacles to their success. I’ve found her biggest strengths to be in the balanced approach she takes in leading people through change and transition carefully without losing her focus on what constitutes truly valuable or high quality outcomes. She takes genuine care in the work she does and is committed to completion of the many projects I’ve seen her deliver during her time at Taylor & Francis. I hope I have the opportunity to work with her again in the future. If you find yourself working in Leila’s team or part of one of her project groups, you’ll be in safe professional hands!
