I tutor engineering, Maths and Physics courses in the residence system, where I am an Academic Sub-committee member. I also tutor in the Electrical Engineering department at UCT and this is where we assist students with problems as well as marking test scripts. Being in Sub-Committee involves organizing leisure activities for students, to help give them a relaxing break from school material with the underlying intention to reduce the effects of depression in students.

      • Mar 2017 - Dec 2018

I am currently working as a teaching assistant for Power System Analysis, Operation and Control as well as Energy Utilization for 3rd and 4th year courses for BSc Engineering students at the University of Cape Town. This is where I get to use a lot of project management tools and skills I learned in my undergraduate studies. I am not only dealing with the technical or engineering aspects, but I deal with course administration too. Dealing with different people with different social dynamics requires also the use of some social skills I learned from my orientation leadership training and everyday challenges build on my leadership and social experience. I am an orientation leader for the Semester Study Abroad (SSA) orientation programme. This involves planning daily activities for the orientation week and execution of such activities by a team of orientation leaders. This has contributed enormously to my capability to be a team player, to work under pressure and more importantly to engage in social spaces easily with different kinds of people from all over the world.

      • Jun 2016 - Aug 2016

I worked as a Research Assistant in the Radar and Remote Sensing Department under the supervision of Professor Michael Inggs. I designed the controller for the front-end of the transmitter on the NeXtRad. NeXtRad is the next generation radar system that is an upgrade of NetRad. I acquired here skills on system engineering design and I used an FPGA and a microcontroller to implement the controller solution. The software used was C/C++ and python. For FPGA, I used VHDL.

I worked as a Sales engineer intern at Cummins Inc. In this role, I was involved in power generation projects and selling generator sets, engines as well as alternators with the aim of providing best solutions to meet customer specifications. I learned here business side of engineering, managing dealers, customers and the importance of relationships. I was exposed to or familiarized with the implementation of the OHS act in the company, the reasoning for the ergonomical design of the work space, how standards and quality control are implemented, and the company's management structure, code of conduct and mission. • Session Chair Assistant - IEEE Power Africa Conference 2018
      • Jun 2018 - Jun 2018

This was a voluntary role. Apart from presenting a research paper on Power System Stability, I worked as a Chair Assistant for the duration of the conference – a week. Amongst other activities, I had to (a) ensure that the session venues have adequate IT support (b) establish connection for presenters joining the sessions online using UberConference platform (c) keep track of scheduled papers and presented papers so that they can be published on IEEE site. This role was rewarding. I worked with diverse groups and learned about active areas of research as well as different ways of thinking about problems. More importantly, looking into the future and planning ahead as an engineer in a dynamic field. Show less
