When I'm not editing and proofreading books, I'm dreaming up highly individualized marketing plans for authors. I also coordinate social media coverage for Iguana Books and Colborne Communications, and handle some of Iguana's author-relations work.

Media studies researcher and lecturer

2000 - Feb 2017
After working as a reporter and arts writer for 10 years in Canada and the U.S. (including a 2 year stint as a video columnist for The Globe and Mail), I returned to school and earned an MA in Film Studies. Since then I have been balancing motherhood with slow-going work on a PhD in Social and Political Thought (with a focus on women's film and TV adaptations of Canadian fiction by women). I have published eight refereed journal articles and book chapters, taught courses in media, film and cultural studies at York University and the University of Toronto, and have held a variety of contract positions in research and communications.

This job involved working independently and with a senior editor at TetraTech to edit mining prospectuses, environmental impact statements and other regulatory filings for startups in the Canadian mining industry. Skills included a blend of substantive editing, copy editing and line editing, and learning about the Canadian mining industry. The job ended when the person who hired me voluntarily left TetraTech and his replacement brought in new staff.
