My responsibilities in this role encompassed two functions. The first function was managerial based and involved managing a team of Developers and Analysts. A strong awareness of each team members expertise was essential in this role as I organised the company’s work schedules and workflow, thereby allocating work to employees. Managing a team required effective use of my interpersonal skills. This is because I communicated with each member whilst overseeing the development of the software and delivery of the monthly software releases. The effect of this is that I am able to clearly engage with colleagues via a variety of mediums, so deadlines and budgets are met. The second function of my role had more developer type responsibilities. I found that it required me to use a variety of softwares including Visual Studio 2012-2015, Visual Basic. NET and C# as I wrote software. Furthermore, I used SQL Server when developing and running stored procedures and scripts. I found that my strong technical skills meant that I was able to complete my work in an efficient manner. A key achievement within this role was independently creating EDI Manager, which is a desktop application. This application was developed for insurers and allowed thousands of policies to be sent to them everyday. At the time I left this position EDI Manager was sending 6000 policies a day to insurance companies. My commercial awareness was greatly strengthened in this role as through liaising with insurers, I enhanced my understanding of their budget restrictions. I feel that my appreciation of their limitations meant that I was able to tailor my interactions to them as I knew what their financial state was. My other responsibilities included creating management information reports and implementing rules and regulations to resolve business issues. Furthermore, I reviewed CVs and interviewed candidates to determine if they would be a good fit for the team. Show less

    • EDI Manager
      • 2004 - 2010

This role required extensive communication with insurance companies as I liaised with them when determining their EDI requirements. Upon identifying the needs and expectations of the insurers, I wrote EDI Manager. The purpose of the application was to allow information to be sent and received from insurers. This occurred in the form of messages via RDP/FTP. Strong problem skills were essential in this role as I would monitor EDI message logs to determine if they met the pre-agreed standards and identify if there were any bugs. It was important that issues in the code were resolved within 7 days and so it was crucial that I maintained a calm and efficient demeanour to resolve the issue. As EDI Manager was built for insurers, I needed to build strong working relationships with them. I found that taking the time to understand their requirements and making constructive suggestions enabled me to develop productive working relationships. I feel that stakeholder management is a transferable skill that will serve me well, and I will bring this attribute to my future roles. Furthermore, a desire to improve work undertaken was fundamental as on occasions I would implement enhancements to the software through conducting development work. I found that improving the software contributed towards strengthening my relationship with insurers as they saw that I went the extra mile. Show less
