  My role as a Youth Advocate was to develop relationships with young people in jail and custodial settings prior to their release, with the goal of creating and following individualized plans during and after custody. As well as being a systems navigator, developing connections to social service organizations in the community and connecting these young people to these organizations to these social services. Also building relationships with young people's families (mothers, girlfriends, etc.), with their attorneys, negotiate DOC systems, establish relationships with Correction Officers. Provide neighborhood based support to young people once they are in the community to reach out and connect to them wherever they are and help them to develop life goals and plans and to support them in making progress towards their goals for the future.
