My responsibilities as committee counsel include researching and analyzing complex legal and policy issues, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, developing strategic advocacy plans, counseling members on committee legislation, and presenting legal and policy recommendations. Notable legislation before the committee includes issues related to employment and labor law, such as worker’s compensation, covenants not to compete, paid family and medical leave, and workforce discrimination issues involving pay equity and pregnant workers. Additionally, I was actively involved in facilitating the filing of several committee-related budget amendments to the FY 2016 budget, for which I coordinated co-sponsors, created talking points, and staffed the Chairman at budget-related meetings. Through this experience I have developed a working knowledge of our state's budget process. Show less

    • Committee Counsel for the Joint Committee on Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure

As committee counsel, my responsibilities included researching and analyzing complex legal and policy issues, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, developing strategic advocacy plans, counseling members on committee legislation, and presenting legal and policy recommendations. I worked on a range of issues including alcohol regulation, the state quota system for alcohol licenses, ticket resale, licensure of various trades, auto franchise, and consumer protection. In my time with the committee, I facilitated the advancement of numerous alcohol over quota home rule petitions. That process required precise attention to detail and liaising between local licensing authorities, the Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission, and legislators to ensure compliance with alcohol regulations and committee policy. Also in that capacity, I made recommendations to the House Chair to hone the committee’s over quota license policy in effort to mitigate any harmful financial impact such licenses may have on existing license holders. During the 2013-2014 session, the committee helped pass legislation allowing for the direct shipment of wine to consumers. To support this effort, I prepared and staffed the Chairman for caucus and on the floor, creating talking points and a legislative fact sheet for dissemination to the members. Show less

I worked with leadership at PPLM, interviewing affiliated physicians and clinicians and analyzing that data to make recommendations to an executive committee regarding the potential for additional health services that could enhance the affiliate’s financial stability.
