Director, Academic Transition Programs

As the Director for Academic Transition Programs at Buffalo State College, I lead the development, implementation, and assessment of First-Year, sophomore, and transfer student experiences, including applying best practices and evidence-based, data-driven solutions. I actively collaborate with campus partners to drive high-impact practices (HIPs) to serve diverse students. I develop and revise curriculum for programs and present programs and outcomes to campus stakeholders. I lead these programs and curricula, hire, train, motivate, and evaluate full and part-time staff members. As the officer in charge of the Academic Standings and Appeals Committee, I enforce academic standings standards and SUNY College at Buffalo academic policies while encouraging consensus decisions on student academic standing. Some of my proudest achievements in this role include:• Successfully designing, planning, and implementing the First-Year Convocation (FYC) with an interdisciplinary, cross-campus team, including operational planning and post-event evaluation.• Ensuring the use of evidence-based, higher education best practices for learning communities, First-Year Honor Society, and first-year and transfer programming. Coordinator, New Student Academic Programs

As the Coordinator for New Student Academic Programs, I designed, planned, and implemented the academic portions of new student orientation and First-Year Convocation (FYC), including budgeting for the FYC. I organized and administered the First Semester Recovery Program and ensured that enrollment goals aligned with robust student success initiatives through active collaboration with colleagues in Enrollment Management. I also coordinated and assessed the First Year Experience course curriculum and the Summer Bridge Program courses.Some of my accomplishments in this position included:• Planning, administering, and assessing First-Year Registration and Concierge Services and using predictive analysis to enhance student transition to college with a data-informed registration process.• Recruiting, administering, and programming for the First-Year Honor Society (Alpha Lambda Delta).• Envisioning and executing a cross-functional campus team to improve transfer students' engagement, retention, and persistence to graduation.• Collaborating with the Teaching and Learning Center to build high-impact practices development opportunities for faculty within student communities.• Creating a campus collaboration workgroup dedicated to assisting transfer student's engagement, persistence, retention, and graduation. Coordinator for Academic Intervention and Co-curricular Activities

In this role, I managed the student petition process for academic standards per Buffalo State College policy. I actively collaborated with other campus offices, including Accessibility Services and Counseling. I recommended changes to academic policies based on research and benchmarking. I also consulted with Admissions on the re-admission of students dismissed for academic reasons.Among my accomplishments in this position:• I crafted and implemented an academic recovery program for first-year students and a mentoring program for students on academic probation to improve retention and persistence.• I designed a College-wide brochure on Financial Aid and ensured its dissemination to students and staff.• Partnering with Intercollegiate Athletics and Greek Affairs, I led initiatives focused on helping students maintain good academic standing for participation.• I utilized campus resources to research reasons for undeclared students' academic probation status via student interviews, early feedback reports, Map-WORKS reports, and mid-term grades reports. As the Director of Student Support Services, I implemented the federally funded student support services (SSS) to comply with US Department of Education requirements and applicable law. I managed the daily operations of the SSS program, including supervision and evaluation of staff members. I also developed programs and metrics for assessment; individual action plans, services; and monitoring participants' progress through graduation.A few of my accomplishments in this position were:• I wrote two successful SSS-Federal TRiO grants totaling $1.4M in funding for the program. • I recommended changes in policy and practice to upper administration to better serve program students and advocated for students facing institutional conflicts.• I conducted training workshops to promote tutor certification through the College and Learning and Reading Association (CLRA). I led services for 275 Student Support Services participants in this position, including course advising, tutoring, financial aid advising, academic coaching, peer mentoring, disability services, career services, personal counseling, and enrichment. I developed the Peer Mentor program and recruited and trained peer mentors. I also created programs for junior and senior SSS participants considering and preparing for graduate school.
