Leah was a colleague who I knew I would like immediately. "Effervescent" is a word that comes to mind, emitting a palpable optimism, accompanied by amusing wit. Her thoughtfully, quirky musings and observations would linger in the room long after she left it, one quality which certainly contributed to her teaching, and also made her very popular with other teachers, her boss, and the parents of her students. Particular to the TDA experience, is a work load that might stagger even other working artists. Teachers at TDA have the benefit of full time employment, but then quickly realize that means they must teach 40 hours of dance a week, which energetically, is quite the challenge, not to mention the commuting, extra-projects, weekend classes and performances. Even in the face of this, Leah still approached each class and project with an above-and-beyond mentality which always showed in her students' performances. I often tagged along with her on foot, as she would traverse San Francisco, buying costumes and accessories for her students, to give each piece of choreography the perfect look. Aesthetic creativity and attention to detail, is yet another one of her strengths. Though cliche, when talking about Leah, the phrase would be "What's not to like?" She's driven by a desire for excellence, she's a great communicator with wisdom beyond her years, she isn't afraid to take risks in search of contentment, she's talented and intelligent, and she never backs down from a challenge. I only wish I owned a business, so I could hire her myself.
