The role required implementing emerging and future trends in the field of education, and assessing their potential benefits for the University. This included the delivery of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) – one of which had over 10,000 registered learners. My main contributions were converting materials supplied by subject matter experts for use in the online platform, learner support, graphic design, and data analysis. I had a key role in exploring the use of digital badges as micro-credentials, and room-scale VR to assess risk awareness in medical procedures. Show less

Sessional Lecturer: Foundation/Access - IT/Computing
-
Oct 2011 - Jun 2014
Three consecutive academic years planning, delivering, and assessing programmes in IT and Computing. These were two-semester programmes covering a range of topics, including Word Processing and Spreadsheets in IT, databases and Java programming. The foundation year course offered more flexibility in choosing content, and allowed me to expand databases from MS Access to MySQL, and to move from SSADM techniques to UML modelling.

My role evolved during this time but was primarily split between developing eLearning materials (working with academics to identify needs and propose solutions), and exploring developments within the field of learning technology. I spent two separate periods providing cover as a learning technologist – which focused on supporting academic staff in their adoption of technologies through face-to-face training and online learning materials. I provided extensive support to academics on the use of the Blackboard VLE - which also included leading the introduction of online assessment through the VLE, and sitting on the technical working group that guided the introduction of institution-wide eSubmission of assignments.
