Paid Lead Assistant baseball to, then Head Coach Mike Scolinos, nephew of John Scolinos, launched the baseball program at WASC accredited small private Christian college (Reformed dutch, Christ-centered worldview) nested in Pasadena, CA. In April 2015 Providence attained NAIA affiliation. My duties included, but limited to, player recruitment, player evaluation, player development and mentoring of young men. Major focus was outfield play development. These duties were supplemented with lite pitchers development, involvement with infielders, game and practice preparation and execution. Primary duties and responsibilities are to establish and provide a positive environment wherein young men can learn and mature. The game of baseball is an excellent vehicle to do so. Although baseball is a fair game. There is a great deal of failure. Learning to how to manage and recover from the day's and games failures is essential. Lastly, I instruct, guide and counsel pitchers (Freshman, JV and primarily Varsity) on their individual pitch mechanics, mental and physical preparation and approach. My primary goal is for each pitcher to take ownership of his routine and mechanics. The ultimate objective is repeat-ability. Secondly, each pitcher must endeavor to control the controllables -those things they can- and release the rest. Otherwise, the nature of the game will rob a pitcher of its enjoyment and achievement. There is much to do: contract a home field, recruit players and coaches, order required equipment and supplies. I am excited to perform these duties; while at the same time a bit stressed that I maintain the high standard and success that David Yamane achieved.
