My primary role is to provide social work services in the ER to identified children and their families. I conduct mental health assessment, trauma/abuse interviews, and needs assessments in order to utilize the best community services for my patients and their families. I work with a dedicated group of medical doctors and nurses daily to provide outstanding care for all of our patients. I often provide supportive counseling and talk therapy with children and their families, as the emergency room and other hospital experiences can present challenges for each patient as they are on their journey to recovery. I have also played a role in developing new policies and procedures regarding care for patients experiencing suicidal ideations, specifically in the implementation and training regarding the use of the C-SSRS screening tool. I also assisted in the development of a level system to help all members of the care team to understand each patient’s needs when they are experiencing suicidal ideations. With this, we hope to improve the care and safety for each patient we care for experiencing this type of crisis. Show less

Jul 2014 - Jan 2015
As a Respite Supervisor, I worked with families and individuals living with developmental disabilities recognized by OPWDD to obtain respite services. This type of service allows caretakers to have a break from providing ongoing care of their loved one living with a developmental disability. I was responsible for completing intake and assessment procedures in accordance with OPWDD policy, as well as hiring and "matching" direct care providers with appropriate families. I was also responsible for conducting supervisions with my direct care staff and work with the families to assure that they are getting what they need from the service, as well as assuring that services are being provided according to the safeguards I write after first meeting a family.
