• Manage data integration of pertinent case documents and support databases. Evaluate, organize, and index incoming case documents and compile the administrative record. Utilize database knowledge to search for historical and current case documents. At request of DOJ attorneys on cases in other offices, work within the database to review documents for privilege and indicate in the database an appropriate way to handle the privileged (or not privileged) document. • Work closely with attorneys to prepare upcoming pleadings, which includes creating initial draft of the pleading, formatting document according to the rules of the court, and proofreading for grammar. Before filing document, perform cite-check pursuant to Blue Book, shepardize, and format to include a table of contents and a table of authorities. File pleadings online or via email depending on rules of the court. Serve filings on several hundred pro se parties involved in water law litigation. Maintain case’s contact list of parties’ and their attorneys. • Perform factual research pertaining to the status of water rights, wells, and historic irrigation practices. Investigate and review map legal descriptions. Conduct legal research for relevant statues, procedural law, and relevant case law. Identify and compile documents pertaining to key legal issues and summarize research findings. • Process incoming and outgoing mail. Review pleadings filed by all parties and calendar upcoming deadlines. Transcribe historical audio and summarize the transcripts for use by attorneys to create a legal argument in future pleadings. Compile, label, and organize exhibits filed. Filed expansive expert’s written testimony with several hundred exhibits. • Communicate with outside counsel. Serve as a liaison to outside counsel with the Department of Interior, Bureau of Land Management, Forest Service, and Native American Rights Fund. • Receive a background check every five years.
