Azure Platform Designer / Cloud Architect
-
Jul 2016 - Aug 2017
The role was loosely defined to assist business projects to utilise the Cloud. I operated as the sole technical resource for delivering Azure in Telstra’s Cloud Creations team. This included solution development to meet the organisation’s standards. All cloud standards (baselines / patterns) were devised and fully documented along with automation processes, alerting and security measures for utilising Cloud Components. The completed project provided developers with 32 reusable patterns for developing Azure based applications. All delivered cloud infrastructure was integrated with existing Telstra services. The primary project supported as part of this programme was Telstra’s BI2020 Big Data initiative and a significant amount of custom development was required to deliver the Data Lake solution to Security standards. After a restructure I was transferred to the Cloud Architecture team and worked on the delivery of the Identity element (Red Hat IdM) for Telstra’s big data project. Show less

Integration Architect (Packaging and Deployment)
-
Mar 2007 - Jul 2007
I was contacted while working in Banking and Finance in Sydney to consider a contract in assisting a troubled project in New Zealand. The initial work was to define technical standards, policies and processes surrounding software within the green-fields corporate environment. The first six weeks of the contract were purely defining standards and frameworks while building systems and tools to assist with the introduction of a managed software environment. The architecture would unify packaging, audit, software delivery and SOE construction with modular software objects. The exercise turned around the project and over 600 applications were subsequently packaged and integrated with the tools created in just under in 12 weeks. The CIBM Desktop Solutions team developed all standards for Application Integration, Patching, Deployment and auditing for one of the largest banks on the planet. HSBC was an environment of 345,000 seats and utilised a vast collection of internally developed systems to produce an extremely robust and cost effective technical environment. My role was to concentrate on developing modular packages of software to integrate with bank systems. Initially this was script based and later switched to MSI based package creation. The desktop solutions team devised integration processes surrounding software that are unparalleled in any organisation I have seen. I assisted with script development and automation in any way I could with such a talented and business orientated team. Land Online remains as the largest IT development project in New Zealand's history ($200m for phase one). I successfully managed and delivered the only work stream to come in on time and under budget. The goal of the project was to provide a standardised Windows NT environment that could meet both project and existing business needs. A series of unique technical limitations existed and Solution Development with a mix of emerging technology and custom code development. This was one of the very first Image based, Managed Operating Environment projects on the planet and used the 96th license for the Image product Ghost ever issued. The ideas and solutions developed in response to business requirements were years ahead of the industry and would become standard practice over the next decade. The development of a universal, hardware agnostic, modular and standardised Operating Environment with Windows NT was extremely adventurous in 1999 & the success of the project in meeting business requirements cannot be underestimated.
