  Assist in the development, coordination, implementation, management and supervision of a comprehensive laboratory biohazard control program and related services for the UC. Identify, evaluate and control biological hazards and related operational issues that may arise in university laboratories operating at Biosafety Level 2 (BSL2), Biosafety Level 3 (BSL3), Animal Biosafety Level 2 (ABSL2) and/or Animal Biosafety Level 3 (ABSL3). Work closely with the Biological Safety Officer (BSO), the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), the Select Agent Institutional Biosafety Committee (SAIBC), the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Animal Resources Center (ARC), the Office of Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S), UC faculty, staff, and students to coordinate services, review facilities, and provide appropriate safety training and technical support.   Manage day to day Operations and Staff at the HTRL - Animal Research and Immunology Core (Up to 7 FTE). I coordinate and manage experiments for the University of Chicago’s Select Agent Program and Biosafely Level 3 (BSL3) and Animal Biosafety Level 3 (ABSL3) laboratories. I conduct research as a service for several Academic Institutions and Pharmaceutical Companies. I have developed animal models for the study of infectious diseases and host-pathogen interactions, tested the efficacy of therapeutic compounds, antibodies and small molecules and developed new vaccine strategies. I also provide operational biosafety training of personnel using A/BSL3 facilities. Show less
