      With a team we are responsible for the design of the mechanical systems and equipment such as but not limited to, fire fighting, ballast, freshwater, fuel, and propulsion systems.As I have a talent for structuring information from multiple disciplines, I volunteered to address the information distribution problem with the fast-growing company. That includes challenges of how to store, find, access and distribute information, and to keep track of the changes made throughout.In two years, I have identified several key factors of how to centralize and distribute knowledge of experienced employees and which pitfalls and challenges exist. This awareness enabled me to set-up an interactive SharePoint website. Herein, the engineering methodologies were centralized; standardization was continually listed and updated, including references to third parties; monthly meetings were held with the entire mechanical engineering staff to discuss each Vessel system, and the information was revised accordingly.Furthermore, on this SharePoint, process flow diagrams where stored, tools to facilitate and find information and a “getting started” document for new employees were made available. Collectively, the SharePoint website resulted in an improved output of the delivered engineering work, lower cost, and faster engineering processes.

      The HBO course aeronautical engineering educates students to a degree of Bachelor of Engineering in the aerospace industry. The four year long course focuses on applying technical scientific knowledge into the daily practice of design, building, selling, use and maintenance of aircraft's. Out of this 4 years, 30% of the time is reserved for internships which are supposed to gain more practical experience in the fields of technique and engineering.The course aeronautical engineering consist out of 3 major parts which can be distinguished as follows:1) Major technical engineeringThis major course aims to teach the students the basics of engineering consisting out of mathematics, mechanics, dynamics, thermodynamics, aerodynamics, control systems, production techniques, communication skills and much more.2) Minor Design and Development (DD)The minor DD aims specifically on the design and development of aircraft's and aircraft components. The major courses are: Stability of thin walled structures, advanced CATIA, flight dynamics, measurement techniques, aerodynamic design (CFD) and control systems (Part 2). In addition to the courses four big projects are performed:- Invitation to tender where a tender is prepared and held.- Helicopters, hereby a helicopter is chosen and the performances are calculated where after the calculations had to be compared and validated with the real specifications of this particular helicopter.- Conceptual Design project, hereby a full aircraft is designed with accompanying technical drawings.- The Engineering entrepreneurship project has a duration of 10 weeks and aims to make students more entrepreneurial. Every week a lecture was given by guest speakers who were entrepreneurs themselves or had entrepreneurial experience. During each lecture a specific aspect of the business model canvas has been discussed and in addition to this a lecture on self-development was held.3) Graduation track

      Research on how to improve the properties of water-lubricated driveshaft-bearing arrangement. This was performed by establishing a theoretical framework of the wear principles between shaft and bearing. Through a quantitative trade-off, a selection was made on different bearing-shaft combinations. A testing procedure was established and the different bearing-shaft combinations were tested. These tests analyzed friction, temperature, and wherein different loads and environments such as clean water and dirty/saltwater. Based on the different tests, a new bearing was selected and also applied. Up to this date, the selected bearing can be found in multiple Damen vessels with until now no warranty claims. Also was this test the start of standardizing the complete propulsion train for 75% of the high-speed craft vessels of Damen Shipyards.

We started from scratch at an empty plot on the RDM location in the Rotterdam harbor. A complete production facility was set up where I was first responsible for the electrical installation, hereafter the production process was installed and my goal was to improve the process to lower costs, improve safety and reduce lead time.       Internship performed as a material test engineer.The goal of MOCS was to set up a daughter company (FWD) that would produce Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) bicycle- and pedestrian bridges. Before the production of this daughter company could start and to optimize the design of the bridges, my task was to set-up the test procedures according to ASTM standards, produce the FRP laminates, and perform different tests on the material. These tests included tension, interlaminar shear stress, and fiber volume analysis. In the end, a report with the gathered information was established and the values that were gained by testing were used during the design of the bridges.
