Bio
Brian Hawker
First, I am aware of Lawrence’s reputation as a 3-year teacher from the former Principal of the Eleazor Winter Memorial School in Wapekeka. Lawrence was a committed and popular teacher. I know this from the comments of former students of mine now working at the school. He immersed himself in the culture of the community and made every effort to make his teaching relevant to the realities of a First Nation. Second, I was very impressed to see how quickly Lawrence fitted into his new role as a Resource Developer in the Academic Readiness Project. He seemed to grasp clearly what the mission was and without delay began working on concrete objectives. It is not everyone who can adapt so well to a new working environment especially when there are cultural differences. Third, I think that the output from Lawrence’s efforts spoke for itself. He was a very hard worker. He focused on production and he got the job done and the production capability of his department became well known both here and beyond Sioux Lookout which continues to enhance our reputation and generate revenue for the organization. Lastly, I want to add that Lawrence is a true team player. He is both professional and a very pleasant person to work with. He is curious. He likes learning and as a trained teacher with excellent communication and interpersonal skills he is always ready to help wherever the need arises including providing mentorship to new staff. He is Mr. Flexibility and I highly recommend him for consideration in the education field.
