Casual Palace Host (State Apartment Warder)

Following my successful summer season as a Palace Host, I was rehired as a casual worker at Hampton Court Palace. In this role, I continued to carry out the tasks and responsibilities which I undertook as a seasonal Palace Host, ensuring the safety of the palace and its artefacts, providing exceptional customer service and working large scale events.

Seasonal Palace Host (State Apartment Warder)

During my season at Hampton Court Palace as part of the front of house team, I was responsible for delivering high standards of customer service and ensuring that every guest had an enjoyable visit. This required frequent use of my own initiative to solve guest problems and complaints. My role as a Palace Host required high levels of security awareness, with the responsibility of helping to lock and secure the palace at the end of the day as well as taking care of many priceless artefacts, some of which were up to five hundred years old. Alongside this, my role demanded strong communication skills with security teams and my colleagues over front of house radios. I was also involved in working busy, large-scale events (monitoring up to 10,000 guests), requiring strong skills in crowd control, as well as in directional and operational positions. Show less

Student Ambassador

As a Student Ambassador both for my home department (the College of Arts and Law) and the University of Birmingham as a whole, I represented my university at various campus events through the academic year. This involved leading informative tours around the university campus for both prospective students and their parents, and answering a range of questions about every aspect of university life with confidence. I worked with a large group of fellow students and staff members to provide prospective students with a valuable experience of the University of Birmingham. Show less

SHINE Student Mentor

My role as a student mentor in the 'SHINE - Serious Fun on Saturdays' programme primarily involved the supervision of large groups of special and additional needs children in school year five. It required close co-operation with the adult mentors to ensure the children were happy, safe and fulfilled. Providing a safe environment for the children to grow in confidence and to prepare them for the next steps in their academic journey was a vital aspect of my role, and was incredibly rewarding.
