Sylvan is set up as a 3-to-1 student to teacher ratio for hour-long sessions. See an in depth description of the programs I taught below. Robotics classes at level 1 and 2 were offered to groups of 6 kids at a time. The elementary-aged students built Lego machines with small motors and were able to code movements using commands and loops in a special software. Homework Support is offered by Sylvan and is completely based on an individual student's take home assignments. My teaching areas included history, math through calculus II, essay writing, chemistry, physics, and Spanish. Elementary Math and Reading are offered through Sylvan's online iPad training program. I would go through a short, focused lesson with the kids and then they would have time to individually complete low stakes activities. Each activity was rated from poor to excellent and the activities built up to a final assessment to determine if the student passed the lesson or needed to be retaught. Study Skills is a specialty program offered through Sylvan that allowed me to guide students through iPad lessons on organization, prioritization, scheduling, and responsibility. For ACT Prep classes, I utilized a workbook to provide practice tests and testing advice to high school students. Show less
