In high school I created a website with the slogan, "While you were fighting, this is what I was writing." The purpose of the site was to post essays, research papers, speeches, poems and artwork that had been created by the students at my school. Each submission was accompanied by a tagline that explained what the student had learned thanks to the freedom ensured by our soldiers (i.e. "While you were fighting I learned about Thomas Jefferson"). As President of the club, I delegated members to edit and review submitted works. I worked with several web and logo designers to create products, such as t-shirts and bumper stickers, to increase our presence on and off campus. We held fundraisers and managed a budget of $1000. Our faculty adviser was a former Marine, who helped us facilitate a conversation between his fellow veterans and our student body. The experience taught me how to build, manage and operate a website, while also instilling qualities of a leader and entrepreneur. Show less
