During my time at Anglia Ruskin, I have taken part in two projects that I have felt passionately about . The first project was about Reminiscence Theatre, where a group of us made a piece about our grandparents lives. We interviewed them about the theatre of love and marriage, then using the transcripts we combined all stories to make a piece about them. The second project was about social change where our group made a forum piece on abusive relationships. This was our chance to raise awareness and signpost the audience about the issue of abuse. This allowed the audience to participate and try to change the situation that the protagonist was in. The reason I am passionate about the projects above is because they are applied theatre projects which I believe are so important to today's society. Show less

Customer Assistant

As a part time shop assistant I have developed valuable skills that are transferable to teaching, such as time management and initiative when having to get all my jobs completed before the end of my shift and using my initiative to overcome obstacles that arise. For two weeks I was given responsibility to manage the shop whilst the owner was away and this opportunity allowed me to gain and develop managerial, organisational and decision making skills which helped me to fulfil the role for the two week duration. During my week experience here I taught and assisted year 7's, 8's and 9's. While observing some of the lessons I made sure that I took note of how current teachers were using behaviour management so that this could help me when I take on teacher training in September. I also observed some departments of behind the scenes in the school, such as the behaviour department where I learnt how to deal with children’s behaviour. The school is year 7-9 and I was able to teach each year group. Year 7’s about bullying, Year 8’s Shakespeare and Year 9’s Comedia. I also helped with a guided reading session and took part in a ‘Circle of Friends’ scheme where children attended that did not have many friends so came to speak to us. Show less

Jun 2016 - Jun 2016
During this time I observed and took part in lessons of different year groups in the drama and English departments. I worked with students with different learning abilities. Although this is a challenge in teaching, I was able to learn how the teacher overcame this by setting three learning objectives: the first one was achievable for every student; the second one would be slightly more advanced that the majority of the class could do and the last objective was for the students that had a higher ability so that they were challenged. Whilst observing I saw that keeping the students engaged was a very important factor, this was done by using a warm up that they enjoyed to prepare them for the lesson ahead. I found that these techniques in teaching were effective because it enabled the students to interact with the lesson. I also completed one to one intervention for students at risk of low attainment. This made me realise how rewarding teaching is as when I gave them praise and advice you could see how grateful they were for the extra support. Having one to one tuition with students is an important aspect of teaching as it builds their confidence as they are given the full attention that is needed. This opportunity has motivated me even more to become a teacher as the hands on experience gave me an insight of teaching. Show less
