I also contribute to practical aspects of our product's UX & UI; everything from mocking up screens and prototypes to hypothesising outcomes and running research to prove/disprove them (I'm a huge advocate for Lean UX).I'm passionate about lifelong learning. While I do this everyday on the job, I also lead a weekly UX Learning Group, participate in online courses (through the Interaction Design Foundation), attend design/tech meetups, and am a member of Glasgow Central Toastmasters club. 👍

As a freelancer I primarily worked on textile designs with Rapee (a Charles Parson brand), creating over 100 unique patterns for cushions, table runners, canvases, bags and interior fabrics. 🎨 I also did occasional UX/UI freelancing as time permitted. User Experience Designer - Intern

Over the course of 5 months, I worked as a UX intern in the REFFIND product team. I thoroughly enjoyed it and worked under the direction of an experienced UX/product designer. It was exciting to be constantly learning and putting into practice new skills in this role - prototyping, journey mapping, usability testing, interviews, creating personas etc. I also invested in continuing development by frequent attendance at various meet ups and events (at least two per week during this period!). I'm especially interested in anything UX related, Design Thinking, Startups and Agile/Lean methodology and learnt from a cross section of inspiring, talented practitioners from the Sydney ux & tech communities.

Designing textiles for interiors and wall-coverings, working to custom client briefs (from residential to large commercial projects), liaising with clients, being aware of and designing for current trends and to deadlines, creating new colourways, ensuring clients receive requested sampling, curating cushion collections, training and managing an intern, liaising with other designers to organise collection releases and get their work print-ready, graphic design including creating job-specific graphics for installation guides and creating banners, brochures, etc for marketing.

Over the course of 9 years, I worked for the same employer (at times part-time, and at times full-time). I was part of the growth of All Costumes Great and Small where I started as a sales assistant, desktop publisher/designer, and fairy (for kids birthday parties). I then assisted in the birth and growth of two new businesses (Costume Direct & Fashionably Yours) and the development of an online presence. Core responsibilities: Customer service, training & managing staff, dispute resolution, website management, graphic design, desktop publishing, social media, google analytics.

As an intern in a small (at the time!) but busy design studio, my role focused on supporting the creative director and the then designer as well as managing and fulfilling sample requests. I also had the opportunity to create custom designs for a couple of commercial clients. At the end of the 560hr internship I was offered a job as Sparkk's full-time textile designer. Over the course of 6 months I transferred & recreated the contents of a couple of Maths Olympiad books from Adobe Pagemaker to Adobe InDesign. This involved extreme levels of attention to detail, laying out many hundreds of content-rich pages and the creation of numerous graphs and graphics.
