Valerie Gooss
As Lauren's supervisor for four years, I had the pleasure of seeing her thrive in the role of an ESL Teacher. An ESL teacher must have the ability to work effectively with people of diverse skills, cultures, and backgrounds to run a successful ESL program. They must also be able to communicate effectively and differentiate communications with a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences. It is also critical that the ESL teacher manage time and projects effectively with creativity and flexibility. Lauren embodied these traits and the results of her program consistently exceeded expectations. I saw her seek counsel from workplace mentors and eagerly implement new technologies to improve her practice. She volunteered to pilot the county's new online testing program and did so with ease. She was an integral part of our curriculum development and provided valuable feedback on processes and procedures, helping us improve our practice across the division. She made significant contributions to the schools that she worked in and any organization would be privileged to have Lauren on their team.
Kimberly Brooke Mangiaracina
As an instructional technology resource and advisor for Lauren, I assisted her in implementing various new technologies into her ESL program. Lauren enthusiastically integrated many 21st century technologies into her program such as virtual reality, green screen videos, Seesaw digital-portfolios, use of the Promethean Board (an interactive whiteboard), and various other apps. While I worked with her, she wrote a grant proposal to fund a set of VR headsets and devices to encourage its use school-wide. Overall, she is great at adopting new technology quickly and effectively.
