As a Smithsonian summer intern, I conducted extensive neuroscience research and published 10+ articles in order to inform readers on contemporary social issues including immigration policy and mental health. During the 50th annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival, which featured circus culture and immigration, I collaborated with our media team to develop an innovative series titled “Through Their Eyes.” I molded this series to feature extensive interviews with annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival participants to educate readers on circus culture and public policy. In the following school year, I continued to write for the Smithsonian, publishing articles that dove into the lives of American Dreamers and mental health policy in higher education. Show less

    • Campus Tour Guide
      • Sep 2016 - May 2018

As one of the faces of the University to prospective students and family, I directed weekly campus tours to 20-50 guests in order to inform them about the UT Austin infrastructure and encourage historically disenfranchised students to pursue higher education. Additionally, I facilitated university-wide recruitment events attended by 3,000+ visitors (e.g. Texas Preview, Explore UT) and interacted with parents and students to assuage any concerns they have about college. During this job, I learned effective delegation and verbal communication skills, as well as flexible response when confronted by difficult situations, including on-campus emergencies and inquiries surrounding racial tensions and campus safety. During my four-year term, I built the previously non-existent social media strategy into targeting social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram. By utilizing Google Analytics, I increased public online presence by over 200%. In addition to facilitating at large-scale events such as the Women's Power Summit and the Biennial Luncheons, I designed and authored 100+ press releases on Center’s Founders and Leaders (sponsors) in order to advance the Center's greater national impact. During essential meetings and workshops, I transcribed notes and presented research study findings to Executive Director, CEOs and Managing Partners of law firms. Show less

Founded in 1923, Orange Jackets is the oldest women service organization at UT and serve as the official hosts of the University. Based in our tenets of scholarship, leadership, and service, Orange Jackets serve in various service opportunities around campus and The Settlement Home for Children, our philanthropy that provides care and support for women and children who have gone through difficult lives. Our previous service projects include UT Family Weekend and erecting the Barbara Jordan statue, the first woman of color monument on campus. As part of the 2016 Tap Class, I was selected as one of 23 exceptional women leaders on a campus of 50,000+ students to serve as official hosts of UT Austin and manage internal membership selection processes. I helped coordinate the collection of over 13K hygiene products for Project Period, a year-long service project designed to provide free emergency products in campus bathrooms and facilitate dialogue about menstrual health. I interacted and mentored the young girls at The Settlement Home and across Austin in order to pioneer social impact through servant leadership. Internally, I was chosen to be one of the five members on the Membership Selection Committee, committing over 50+ hours in the span of two weeks in the fall to choose the next service class. I collaborated with my co-members in intensive reading, interviews, and deliberation in order to decide on the newest 23 members.
