TNO-ESI is a leading Dutch open innovation research group for high-tech embedded systems design and engineering. Because of the fast everchanging (digital) world, complexity increases. For that reason organizations like Philips, ASML, TFS, Nexperia, Canon, Thales, TU & TNO work together in a shared research program on several projects to figure out how they can be smarter in developing new products with focus on system architecture & design methodologies. This build-up knowledge is then shared between partners and other interested organizations in e.g. special interest groups, visits, colloquia & symposia. Next to building new knowledge & understanding, a second goal of ESI is to enhance development of 22st century technical competencies that are necessary to build-up innovative capabilities in systems architecting, design & integration. My role is to see how we can make learning & competence development more explicit & cohesive: in/or as an effect of research projects as well as in specially custom-made competence programs & technical leadership programs for technical professionals concerning system architecture, performance & integration. With the overall goal to have impact on the 'wicked problems' the industry is facing.Next to my specific role in ESI, I am Also involved in some generic activities at TNO level: 1. Part of the strategy and change panel which reviews and gives suggestions for the new TNO strategy 22-252. Organising events in the unit ICT about brilliant failures and impact3.
