Course was structured as a practice based learning model (from theory to hands-on practice) focusing on water issues of Mexico City. Students were learning new skills and technics with help of design anthropology system thinking methods on how to gather and translate scientific data into useful material. Potential of design anthropology and change agency was practiced and learned through the practical projects and exercises. Anthropological ethnographic research and the field of design show shared interests in research subjects. In both disciplines the main interest and focus of the research is gathered around individuals, society and behavioural attitudes. In anthropology we focus mostly in the first part, understanding and observing these concepts and defining their current state and the issues surrounding them. In design we focus on the second part: the production and creation of solutions. In the field of design anthropology practice, anthropology research allows us to have better insight into users’ needs and their culturally differentiating behavioural habits. In addition, it has a potential to spark the initial creative process (Conti 2015) and encourage quality in design products, services, spaces and systems. On the other hand, design can help anthropology by opening up new opportunities and innovative ways of engaging applied results with socially mediated, creative design methodologies. I have facilitated workshops during which students will work on their project research in groups with the help of different creative and systemic methods. As a final result, they had present a final project based on strategic proposal that addresses the “environmental challenges” – particularly focusing on urban water management at Mexico City.
