      York Region is home to 1.2 million residents of Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, King Township, Markham, Newmarket, Richmond Hill, Vaughan and Whitchurch-Stoufville. As a communications associate/advisor in the Community and Health Services Department's Strategic Engagement and Emergency Management Unit, I am responsible for:• Providing communications counsel to client groups to determine strategic approaches to internal and external communications, media relations and issues management• Leading the development and implementation of strategic, audience-specific, communication initiatives, campaigns, events and tactics aimed at increasing public awareness and advancing the delivery of programs• Proactively monitoring and evaluating progress of communication plans to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and recommending and implementing options and/or course of action; providing strategic department communication advice and tactics• Conducting research on best practices to support effective communications• Reviewing, editing and approving external communication products such as brochures, pamphlets, articles, newsletters, etc. in conjunction with management to provide clear, consistent messages to Region residents• Researching various legislations, policies and programs for background materials • Representing the department with both internal and external stakeholders while ensuring representation aligns with departmental strategic priorities• Participating and assisting with event, outreach, committees, work groups, task forces and special projects • Maintaining technical and professional knowledge by attending seminars, conferences and training opportunities
