Second year MSW placement experiencing the diversity which is offered within medical social work. I was supervised by two practice teachers while on placement in Cork University hospital who were designated Oncology and Paediatric referrals. I experienced client base diversity in both areas including terminal illness and child protection which ranged in age and level of support and mainly offered a support and advocacy service, ensuring the safeguarding of the client throughout while providing external assistance and referral to services. I completed psychosocial assessments for clients I worked with and attended regular oncology meetings with professionals involved in client care.

Working with young people who experience mild to moderate mental health difficulties. Offering a service which is guided by systemic theory, brief intervention and a strengths based approach. As a professional social worker in training I shadowed my practice teacher mainly throughout my placement as it was a first placement and was given opportunities to lead sessions which were supervised towards the end of my placement.
